Bravo to the NFL for suspending the ‘reprehensible’ Michael Vick indefinitely. Some things are just inexcusable and we don’t need to send the message that these things are okay by looking the other way just because of someone’s celebrity.

Kevin, usually I’m with you 100%, and while I do think that Vick deserves some punishment making an example of him because the client is high profile doesn’t really seem fair. Here’s an instance where 4 other guys were convicted of dog fighting and are likely to only get probation. At the same time more serious crimes have been committed by other players with little or no punishment.

Chris, good points. I guess I could have elaborated some on the issue to be clear.

I don’t agree with Michael Vick “being made an example” in any means. He’s just a guy who made some bad decisions like all of us have. All I was saying, just like the rest of us, he should be subject to the same punishments and reprisals anyone would, celebrity or not.

In recent news we hear of Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Lindsay Lohan getting off with little or no real punishment for their repeated drug and alcohol offenses. Nicole Richie spent a whopping 82 minutes in jail… I’m sure she really learned her lesson.

I know there will always be an inbalance (which is apparent from the links you provided) and that things never really end up being truly fair or just. I just wanted to applaud the fact that there seemed to be some semblance the punishment matching the crime to this decision.

No doubt, I guess you’ve got to draw the line somewhere and in that regard we should applaud the NFL and FED’s for actually taking a stand somewhere.

And now that the guy is going to prison, I’m even happier! Couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy. I personally believe that because Vick IS famous, and was a role model to many young people, he deserves a harsher punishment than perhaps another party. He certainly benefited greatly in a financial way from his being held in such high regard, and he clearly enjoyed being a hot shot.

What he and others like him tend to forget that while fans can be very generous to those who’ve grabbed the brass ring, they also expect more. When people like Vick start to think that they’re not accountable to anyone and don’t have to follow no stinkin’ rules, they deserve to get squashed.

I’m so happy this thug got what he deserved. I wish that all perpetrators of illegal behavior, particularly sickening crimes like this one, would get the same, but I’m glad if we can pick off one at a time.
