A New Deal and A New iPhone

It appears my resistance to the initial iPhone hype paid off. As the whole world knows by now, on the 5th of this month, Apple announced a drastic price drop ($200) on both the 8GB and 4GB iPhone models. As a friend put it..”That makes it almost reasonable.” I knew that it wouldn’t be long until a second generation model would be ready to roll out, and the first models would drop in price significantly.
Within about an hour of the announcement, Nick and I were at the Apple store, each buying a new 8GB model. I was actually very impressed with the phone itself, but still felt like I had sold my soul to Satan when I activated my new AT&T wireless account. My eye is twitching now just thinking about it. I’ve had the phone for just over a week now, have played around with all the features, browsed through the ring tones, mapped useless stuff on google maps, watched a couple of YouTube videos, and have even actually started texting some. So far, so good I guess.
Well, the new price point was the final selling point for me, but apparently some disillusioned souls out there felt shunned by Apple.. all those “early adopters” and the fan boys who camped out to be the first in their circle to have an iPhone. What exactly did they expect I wonder. A price drop was coming. Yes, this did seem a bit soon, but when you rush out to buy something like this on the first day, you should expect to pay a premium. Apple responded to all the whiners and squeaky wheels with what I personally consider a pretty decent olive branch.. a $100 credit at the Apple store. Hey, that’s like free money. I don’t remember Microsoft doing that lately.. especially not with the intent of showing loyalty to their customers. Alas, still a lot of whiners out there.
I guess the morals to this story are that good things come to those who wait, and the squeaky wheel does get the grease.

You and your whack sayings. And yes, I just said whack.
thanks for the linkage yo!!
now i need my iPhone too!
